How is it decided who gets the pole position in a NASCAR race?
Answered By Niles Hanssen, Editor
Before the actual race, there are so-called qualifying laps where the drivers will be making laps around the track individually for the time record. Their individual time record is used as a basis to decide on the starting order of the actual race. The driver with the fastest time on the qualifying laps gets the head start, thus the one who is referred to be in the pole position.
