What is the average speed of a NASCAR car?

Answered By Niles Hanssen, Editor

Just like its top speed, the average speed of a Nascar car varies from race track to race track. It is figured out based on the winner's lap speed through the entire race. For instance, the Talladega Superspeedway, which is the fastest track, the recorded average speed is about 188 miles per hour or 303 kilometers per hour. The Infineon Raceway, the slowest track, the recorded race average speed is only about 81 miles per hour or 132 kilometers per hour. The Martinsville Speedway which is a very short and nearly flat paper-clip oval track has a recorded race average speed of 82 miles per hour or 156 kilometers per hour.
